Illegal Dump sites- Danger to Health

Most  surbubs  in  Bulawayo  are  full  of  illegal  dumbing  areas  and  the  city  council  is  largely  to  blame  because  of  its  failure  to  collect  refuse  frequently. According  to  Zimbabwe  Links,  collection  of  refuse  is  done  fortnightly  in  eastern  areas  and  once  in  every  month  in  the  western  areas.

Surprisingly, litter  is  always  there  everyday  and  everywhere  but  the  collection  is  once  a month  and  this  is  likely  to  cause  health  problems  such  as  cholera.

Clearly  the  City  Council  has  to  do  something  to  ensure  the  collection  of  refuse  everyday  to  get  rid of  rubbish.

The  Environmental  Management  Agency (EMA) also  expressed  concern  over  the  raNDOM  Garbage  disposal  in  Bulawayo  by  residents  saying  it  was  causing  a  serious  threat  to  human  health.
According  to  the  Standard  newspaper, refuse  collection  stopped  in  2008  when  there  was  an  economic  crisis  and  this  was  because  of  the  government's   failure  to  approve  the  council's  supplementary  budgets(www.thestandard.co.zw). 
At  least  a  private  firm  will  improve  the  collection  of  refuse  since  the  City  Council  has  proved  to  be unreliable.
